Common questions about DEXA scan cost
- Do I need a doctor's order for a DEXA scan?
- A diagnostic bone density scan requires a physician order. Our DEXA Body Fat body composition study can be booked self-pay without one through our online store.
- What is the difference between bone density and body composition?
- A bone density DEXA measures bone mineral density to assess osteoporosis risk and returns a T-score. A body composition DEXA measures fat, lean mass, and their distribution. Both use the same scanner.
- How often should a bone density scan be repeated?
- That's your physician's call. Screening intervals are commonly every two years, and may be shorter if you're on treatment or have risk factors. We send results to whoever ordered the study.
- Can I get an exact price before I come in?
